It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Hector MacDonald. It is only within the couple of weeks that we became aware of his death on the 5th of February this year. Although we did have some concerns at the start of the season when Hector had not appeared at the club and our attempts to contact him by both email and mobile phone were unsuccessful. He was a very private person, and we had no home address for him or information on any relatives he may have had.

We were contacted by a past member who now lives in Inverness that she had heard from one of her friends that Hector had died and we were able to confirm this by contacting the Registry Office in Edinburgh.

We have now spoken to his nephew who confirms Hector’s passing, and he was sorry, that they had no information which would have allowed them to contact not only ourselves but other friends or colleagues with the date of his funeral.

Hector joined the club in 1968 and was immediately appointed to the position of 1st Eleven Scorer a role he carried out for the next 50 years. The Management Committee in recognising this remarkable achievement had already taken the decision to Honour him in some way this season and this will now take place before the season ends.

Members will be updated in due course once the arrangements have been finalised.
